Top5: Spooky Comedies on NetflixCA

As night rolls in earlier and magic fills the air a cozy tv night with a warm cider seems like just the ticket! So let’s get into my fave Spooky Comedies/Shows on NetflixCA right now!

Top5: Spooky Comedies on NetflixCA

Santa Clarita Diet (2017-19)

TV-MA 3 Seasons (30 episodes)

A family grapples with the realities of one member becoming undead while keeping their senses. Sort of a mash up of zombie lore and Death Becomes Her. Timothy Olyphant puts away his 10 gallon hat to team up with Drew Barrymore in this quirky and fun comedy. The show even did an advertising run with BodyBreak hosts of our childhood Joanne McLeod and Hal Johnson! If you were a Canadian child through the 80’s and 90’s you know how incredible this was!

CrazyHead (2016)

TV-MA 1 Series (6 episodes)

Susan Wokoma (Chewing Gum, Enola Holmes) and Cara Theobold (Absentia) get sucked into the murky underworld of demon hunting when Amy’s (Wokoma) flatmate becomes possessed. The show was short lived but worth watching the 6 episodes as it’s pretty funny! I wish it had continued.

iZombie (2015-19)

TV-MA 5 Seasons (71 episodes)

Veronica Mars’ Rob Thomas takes on the graphic novel of the same name and brings in all the VM cameos! The story follows the Yellow Bear RPM Ranger Liv Moore (Rose McIver), a med student come zombie who takes a job at the coroners office. Using her new found powers to help the resident detective (Malcolm Goodwin) solve crimes. This fresh take on crime procedurals is filled with funny characters and an interesting story.

Stranger Things (2016-)

TV-14 4 Seasons (34 episodes)

I just assume everyone’s been watching this, but if you’re one of the few that hasn’t Autumn’s the time! The story is compelling but the show is also filled with nostaligic notes of our childhood. From the jokes to the costumes, to casting choices (ie: Sean Astin FTW) there’s a familiar feeling of childhood adventure!

The Witcher (2019-)

TV-MA 1 Season (8 episodes)

*Season 2 premiers December17th!

Not really a comedy but does have some solid humour. This show is based on the video game and book of the same name. I’ve never played it but B has. Interesting story, good action, sweet troubadour jams, and Henry Cavill living his best nerd life make this a show worth watching, especially on the cool Autumn nights!
